ENTRE-DEUX
Modica, June 20 - September 27, 2026
GARAGE FONTANA
From 20 June to 27 September 2026, GARAGE FONTANA presents ENTRE-DEUX, an exhibition curated by Margherita Ratti that gather, for the first time, the work of Greek artist Katerina Christidi and the Franco-Austrian duo Célia Picard and Hannes Schreckensberger.
The exhibition includes three large-scale charcoal drawings on canvas by Katerina Christidi, created between 2013 and 2021, together with a selection of drawings from the Daily Drawing Series (2006). For the occasion, Célia Picard and Hannes Schreckensberger have created a group of two-dimensional ceramic works and a new series of wool felt pieces, further developing their ongoing practice.
The artworks inhabit a liminal space, suspended between memory and matter. Latent and elusive, they emerge from a realm beyond conscious recall and before fixed material form. Untethered from any specific time, they appear as archaic presences re-emerging in the present.
In Katerina Christidi’s charcoal drawings, Sans titre (2013, 2018, 2021), depth and surface interpenetrate. Anonymous figures drift in and out of view. The images remain unsettled, suspended between appearance and disappearance, recognition and ambiguity.
Felt and ceramics occupy a central place in the practice of Célia Picard and Hannes Schreckensberger. In their works, matter becomes charged with archaeological resonances, evoking objects, artefacts, organisms and presences. Throughout the exhibition, enigmatic forms evoke mouths, eyes and amulets.
For the duration of the exhibition, GARAGE FONTANA becomes a space of the entre-deux: a threshold where the visible and the latent remain in constant exchange.
Katerina Christidi was born in Athens and lives in Paris. Charcoal drawing on canvas lies at the heart of her practice. Working through repeated gestures and successive layers of charcoal, she creates images that gradually emerge from the surface of the canvas. Figures, motifs and spaces accumulate, overlap and merge, generating worlds marked by ambiguity, transformation and uncertainty. In 2023, the City of Athens Art Gallery devoted a major retrospective exhibition to her work. In 2026, her drawings were published in Roven No.19.
Célia Picard and Hannes Schreckensberger draw on craft traditions and vernacular forms of knowledge to create objects, installations and publications that speak to the present while sketching out possible futures. Working with an economy of means, they bring together manual practices and digital tools.
They co-direct Revue DAS, a self-published editorial project conceived as a meeting place for artists, researchers and experimental practices. In 2026, they completed a large-scale textile work of 450 m² for the Paul-Valéry University of Montpellier.
Summer closure: 31 July - 30 August 2026.
