HAUTE COUTURE
Paris, 2020 September 3rd - 12th
ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF CULTURE
“HAUTE COUTURE” is a site-specific installation by Servomuto at the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris, curated by Margherita Ratti. “HAUTE COUTURE” is an original project of seven floor lamps in homage to the visionary spirit of Parisian Haute Couture, the maximum synthesis of different cultures and subcultures, a permanent walkway between tradition and innovation.
The installation is realised with a skilful and brilliant display of craftsmanship, inviting visitors to discover the time-honoured savoir-faire of lampshade production, reaching a contemporary and sartorial version of the lamp in fabric.
In a play of light and shadow, a diagonal line cuts transversally through a space moulded to the human scale and dressed by Servomuto. After all, the combination of classic fabrics with contemporary forms is their artistic signature. Both overwhelming and inviting, visitors cross the hall, bringing their gaze closer to the pieces, whose colourful lampshades sport a variety of fabric ribbons, thin ash stems and multiple facet hexagonal bases.
The floor lamp “HAUTE COUTURE” by Servomuto is handmade in Italy, each piece is unique and it impresses with its imposing appearance. The lamps are composed of an hexagonal base made of ash wood and a cheerful lampshade which resembles a dress.
